Beer List

Below is the current list of beers to be sampled at The Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival on January 28, 2012. This list is in no way final. We will likely have breweries to add to this list in the coming weeks, but here is a preview:

The Beer Dabbler Oak Barrel Brew

Each Beer Dabbler festival, one brewery is chosen to fill our Beer Dabbler oak barrel. For the second Winter Carnival in a row, this exclusive brew will be tapped by the Mayor of St. Paul, Chris Coleman, shortly after the start of the event.

This year’s selection for the oak barrel will be a very exclusive offering from the current proprietor of “Lord Dabbler’s Cup” — Tallgrass Brewing Company. Head brewer Andrew Hood will be concocting a variation of one of their most popular beers — Oasis. At a hefty 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis “is a Double ESB/IPAish beer”, known for “over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone.” Beyond its already complex and individual character, the special release Oasis that Tallgrass is bringing to the fest, will be infused with Brandy-soaked Oak Spirals and Candy Cap Mushrooms. By boiling out the tannins of the Oak Spirals, it should get rid of the exceedingly tannic and harsh flavors of the young oak and should bring out some of the Vanilla as well as some of the toasted notes from the malt.
