Entertainment

In addition to great craft beer, we’ve got a full line-up of entertainment at this year’s Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival!

Big Wood Brewery Stage with live music from:

Romantica

Their latest release, Control Alt Country Delete, was written and recorded in one day in Austin, TX on March 23, 2009 when they found themselves with an open day in a studio post SxSW. The result is like a peep hole into the writing and recording process as we listen to songs recorded as they are still being written, the band discussing arrangements as they go and even a fleeting moment of internal tension. Christy would form the band Ouija Radio in the late 90′s. She is still currently in Ouija Radio and started playing guitar in The Von Bondies in 2008. They are now finally in a band together along with Charles and Jacques. Charles moved to Minneapolis in the late 90′s for school. He came from Williamsport Pennsylvannia and played with Jazz Man’s Needle and Mid Carson July. He would play stints with Mark Mallman and The Short Fuses before landing a permanent gig in Ouija Radio. He is still currently in Ouija Radio, The Seawhores and does stints with Marijuana Death Squad. Jacques is a long time friend of the whole band. He is a national recording engineer and recorded the last three Ouija Radio records. The Beer Dabbler Oak Barrel Brew

Each Beer Dabbler festival, one brewery is chosen to fill our Beer Dabbler oak barrel. For the second Winter Carnival in a row, this exclusive brew will be tapped by the Mayor of St. Paul, Chris Coleman, shortly after the start of the event.

This year’s selection for the oak barrel will be a very exclusive offering from the current proprietor of “Lord Dabbler’s Cup” — Tallgrass Brewing Company. Head brewer Andrew Hood will be concocting a variation of one of their most popular beers — Oasis. At a hefty 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis “is a Double ESB/IPAish beer”, known for “over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone.” Beyond its already complex and individual character, the special release Oasis that Tallgrass is bringing to the fest, will be infused with Brandy-soaked Oak Spirals and Candy Cap Mushrooms. By boiling out the tannins of the Oak Spirals, it should get rid of the exceedingly tannic and harsh flavors of the young oak and should bring out some of the Vanilla as well as some of the toasted notes from the malt.

Leinenkugel’s Silent Disco

New this year at The Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival is: The Leinenkugel’s Silent Disco. Dance to the beat of a different drummer — literally. Join the Leinie’s Girls and 30 of your closest friends for an opportunity to put on a pair of wireless headphones and dance your heart out in the The Leinenkugel’s Silent Disco. We supply the tunes, you supply the moves. This free activity at The Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival is one more reason this is an event that is not to be missed.

In July of 2010, they decided to bring their show on the road. Leaving the corporate world in L.A., Amy joined Kari back at home in Minnesota, after Kari closed the doors on her daycare business, and the two haven’t looked back since.

Minnesotans flock to “Big Orange” for their signature BBQ Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Caramelized Onions. Other popular items include the Santa Monica BLT with avocado/garlic mayonnaise, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with homemade blue cheese spread, Pulled Pork Tacos with citrus slaw and chipotle sour cream, and Guinness Chili. In addition to serving good food, Amy and Kari pride themselves in making each customer feel at home with Fork In The Road. Potter’s Pasties

The pasty (pronounced pastee), originated from England centuries ago. English miners wanted a way to bring savory pies with them into the bellows of the earth so they could enjoy the taste of home whilst they were away. The biggest problems they faced back then were keeping them in one piece. That and a lack of utensils to eat them with. After years of consuming broken pies soiled from the silt on their hands, the pasty was born. Stuffed with huge portions of veg and meat these pies were said to have been dropped down a mile long shaft without obtaining a single fracture. The crust provided a handle in which to hold them with while the said miner enjoyed a grit free lunch of wholesome English ale pie. This style of eating landed on American shores of Lake Michigan up in the Iron Range in the mid 1800′s and continued the English mining tradition that is still alive and well today. Being a native Minnesotan who has spent a significant amount of time in the vast lakes and forests of our state, I have always wanted a warm bite that wouldn’t go soggy, leak, break, or lose its appeal in whatever activity I was engaged in. Well it only took an engagement to a beauty from across the pond to finally find what I was looking for (and no, not just the food :) And this is how Potters was born. After perfecting the balance of durability and flakiness, you no longer need the jaws of life to enjoy a traditional English pasty. Instead, you just need jaws. So go on and take a bite already.
