Surly Abrasive
Surly Abrasive is a big double IPA. What’s a double IPA? Double India Pale Ales are a strong, very hoppy style of beer with high amounts of malt and hops. Double IPAs typically have alcohol content above 7% by volume. IBUs are in the very high range (60+). I had the intension of having a refreshing session beer during a long bike ride on a warm sunny day, but I just couldn’t pass on trying this beer formerly known as 16 Grit. You should expect Surly Abrasive to be extremely hoppy, but the blended use of malt, citrus, and floral essence made the hop flavor well balanced and not over powering. As for flavor, it is truly unique. The citrus immediately hit my taste buds and spread into my sinuses.
